Talia Peckel is a visual artist who was born in Canada and raised in Colombia. She moved to Toronto and completed her BFA at OCAD University with a major in Drawing and Painting in 2014 during which she spent a semester at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, Israel.
She currently lives on a gulf island off the west coast of Canada continually engaging with the visual arts in the community, working with the local arts council and community projects in schools and public spaces.
Her most recent work in mixed media (ink and collage) explores the mysteries of the feminine psyche and body, emphasizing female empowerment through surreal, dream-like imagery. In her collage work, images of women are reclaimed from old magazines and placed into a new context for their strengths and inner beauty to be highlighted. Her experimental portraits are based on real and imagined women exploring themes of the psyche and emotional realms.
